Welcome onboard Wayan

Surfer Girl is delighted to welcome Wayan Sugianti from Serangan, Bali, as our latest team rider.
Sugianti is only 20 years old and a real budding talent for bodyboarding. Surfer Girl is proud to deck her out with a brand new bodyboard and leash from the Fun Stuff Collection and clothing from the great new Summer Collection '06.

She's going to look so good in the water..and on land! Our resident team board rider Becky was on hand to show Wayan the goods and welcome her into the family. It was a real get-together session, and every one wanted to get to know Wayan. Our very own Summer caught up with her in between, and found out what's on the go with this girl! Check out Summer's mini interview with Sugianti below...

So how did you start bodyboarding?
I met 4 Japanese surfers on the beach one day and they invited me to learn bodyboarding. Now I really love this sport.
What do you love about the surf?
Bodyboarding has become one of my hobbies now, and I love watching the waves. I actually like hanging out by the beach, just looking at the sea and chilling out.
Are you afraid of anything in the sea? I know I am...
Yes, I used to be afraid of big waves and I still am! Where I surf, at Serangan, the waves can get pretty big sometimes too.
Lots of parents think surfing is a dangerous sport, what about yours?
At the beginning, my father was against me bodyboarding. He said I am a girl and that I will get a terrible sun burn from being at the surf all the time. But now, he is fine with it.
Any advice for girls who want to learn how to bodyboard?
They should be prepared mentally and especially physically, as bodyboarding is quite a physical sport and girls could get tired more quickly than boys

Thanks for your time Sugianti, it's always great to see girls getting into bodyboarding and really getting out there. See you in the Surf!
